Call me a hippie, lunatic or what you will, folks, but I believe that unless someone's actions is causing direct and severe harm to another person, no matter how much I object to their choices, it should be their choice as an adult to make. That is why I believe in drug legalization, not because I feel that using drugs is moral ( I don't), but because I feel that I, nor anyone else should make choices for another grown adult who is of sound mind. Besides, keeping these drugs illegal causes more problems to society than the drugs themselves cause. If a drug addict decides on their own to get help, or if they commit a crime due to their addiction, then help should be provided to get them off these substances. That said, however, when tax dollars are being given out to drug addicts, when we know full well that it will be used to support their habit, that is causing harm to every American citizen, and causing even more harm to the addict, it is fueling their addiction. It is not compassionate to them in the least. I wish that these welfare programs for those who can work didn't exist. They are drowning our country financially, and are unconstitutional (at least on the federal level anyway, ie, 10th amendment). However, since neither party in power has the will (or the good sense) to end these programs, something must be done in the meantime. If that means drug testing, than so be it.... I don't like the idea of government getting involved in another person's life, but this just goes to provide yet another reason why these welfare programs shouldn't exist in the 1st place, it's enivtable, once government gets into anything, it starts to slowly take over, including into people's lives....
