Ok. Not a bad idea but how is the schools going to feed the children breakfast lunch and dinner 7 days a week 365 days a year? What about children under 5? I guess we could flood our overcrowded underpaid foster care system. How about this. 1. No legal paperwork to be in this country no aid period. ( Save a few million easily just in the first month). 2. Go ahead and drug test the ones receiving food stamps and cash. I don't see how the ones just receiving medical help are much of a problem because most of them are the working poor and people with chronic disorders who just can't get or afford the insurance offered to them. 3. If they pop positive retest to make sure there was no false positive and make mandatory treatment in order to keep your aid. They could also employ some of our wonderful older generation to go in and help with life skills. 4. After a parent pops positive make them come in a make arrangements for a caregiver in case they cannot take care of their children.(Don't tell me this is unfair, every adoptive parent has to do this anyway, Most of us did this when they were born when we chose godparents, it's what responsible parents do). Let them know that the next time they pop positive they will lose their children and their aid until they complete a treatment course and a parenting plan. This may be enough to scare most of them straight, however some it does not matter and those are the kids that will end up in the foster care system or with family members. 5. You know the money saved by not paying for all the non legal aid? Put it to work in higher education, small businesses, childcare and state infrastructure.
