So then, what's the answer? i have known some intelligent people who motivate others around them. and one friend could work at monsanto rather than a school - monsanto would offer him great benefits and triple the salary...being an educator would be a benevolent and noble desire for him... yes - i am completely confident that if we paid our teachers more it would become a more competive and driven system. it would attract people who would otherwise work in the private sector and make alot more money...that type of character would likely be a leader - a person inspired to teach and obviously with the experience and education to back it. you know what i honestly think would happen??? we would start seeing the brightest from around the world come to our universities - graduate and enter the education profession - thus exposing our American youth to different cultures and that too could be a way it could be a beneficial thing... we can speculate whether it would or not - but we will never know until we actually try. we have increased education funding in the past - but we have yet to properly reform education and thus re-allocate the funding in a constructive manner. maybe it should not be based on level of education - though it would certainly be justified if it was... i said in my previous post that there should be some years experience under the teachers belt in a math related field to be a high-level math teacher...and that high-level math teacher deserves higher pay. that higher pay therefore makes them a priority target when it comes time to trim the budget...so that higher paid teacher would need tenure to protect them so long as they met all agreed upon requirements in their contract. these are just some ideas - there are many ideas out there - but we just test more and blame teachers.
