Gary, I agree with most of your thoughts. Quite simply teachers who care about their students and jobs will make extra effort. However, many are in it for the wrong reason. It's not a tough degree to obatain and the benefits, schedules are appealing. As for the continuing education, I believe much of that is done throughout the school year with substitute teacher serving the classroom while their teachers are in workshops. Lib, your claim about the 75% may be true for you mom and some others. However, when I had my membership at Paddlers Mrs. O. saw several teachers there every day of the summer. Don't blame them for that, it just dispels your theory. I think the whole thing about this is people are frustrated. I doubt anyone on here hates teachers. I think we all feel for them and are proud of the profession. That being said, we're all sick of taxes and benefits. If it wasn't teachers it would be police or firemen. Meeting today's standards with a definite lack of support form many parents must be frustrating. Working hard and having some smart mouth kid talk back to you or his un-employed, tatooed mother blaming you for his failures has to be hard. However, you know that's part of the terrain.
