Teachers usually only get 1/2 hour for lunch. Prep time is meant to be time for teachers to grade papers, write up lesson plans, etc. Even though there is one poster on here who claimed that prep time was his time to do whatever he wanted, that is simply not the case for most teachers. teachers are given that prep hour to grade and write lessons - but if some teachers, like the one poster you mentioned on this site, do their grading and planning at home than they have an hour to themselves. i used my plan periods to make copies, make phone calls to parents if need be, check the news and modern events (sometimes would be a short discussion about them at the beginning of class, depending on the class... and yes that time is 100% my time. i can sleep if i wanted to...because i am salary. i get paid a flat rate to be in class and well prepared on scheduled school days...i am paid to teach content to students so when i do not have a scheduled class and i have no students i do not have to answer to anyone. it is a fact. and a petty thing to cling to.
