Many spend that other "vacation" time in workshops, pursuing ongoing education "Many" being the operative word in this statement. On going education and workshops should be mandatory during the "two" months of off time. And I beg to differ, if you calculate in Christmas break, spring break, and every other celebrated federal and state holiday...your argument fails. The average U.S. citizen works 2000 to 2088 hours per year, based on a forty hour work week. Teacher do not work a forty hour week if you consider their lunch, prep period and most of those I had fist hand knowledge of. Let's say they work 35 hours a week, for 9 months of the year (yeah, I know, I know, you claim they are only off for two months of the year, and I disagree), but we will do it with your ten months of the year theory, that still calculates to them working 1400 hours a year. With healthcare and retirement, and minimal chance of ever losing their job regardless how shitty of a teacher they are....yep, I see what you are saying. They are definitely getting the short end of the stick. NOT Could it be any more apparent that you or your significant other is a teacher?
