We cannot do away with social welfare, disability, benefits for those who served in the military, or for those too old to work. We just cannot.
It's bad enough that there are people who put themselves in harm's way in Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq who are living on the streets.
I am not for a strict interpretation of the Constitution and the teabag front is just begging to be nailed for hypocrisy if they think that strict interpretation is going to work.
I mean just wait until they decide that the SOCIALIST poplar Street Bridge closes. I mean the only non-socialist way to get across that river may be the privately owned Golden Eagle Ferry. But you have to take socialist highway 3 and then 100 to get there, and cross the socialist ferry across the Illionis river to get there.
We're the richest nation on earth, we can afford that our poor don't starve to death. We can afford that they all sleep inside.
What we can't afford is these a$$holes who take their benefits and wheel and deal them for drugs all the while leaving their children for dead.
I am all for testing and for making sure that what is given is used well.
I also have no problem with mandatory public service.
There is no reason why a person in poverty cannot live with dignity.
I believe that a person who applies should be treated with dignity...but that dignity should be returned with dignity.
If a poor single mom gets $800 a month in benefits, she cannot return $800 worth of public service...but there could be something that either she or her kids could do as a thank you to the community. There is no reason why poor areas have to look like slums. People can still pick up after themselves and the such.
This system needs to be revamped. If it cannot be cheaper at least do it with dignity, and incentive to get off of it.
