I am 32 years of age. I have attend in my life a basic mechanic's course, and have been messing around with cars ever sinse. I am far from a professional. I rent garage premesis, where i buy, strip and sell cars in bits, to make a living. I do like to have a go at fixing cars, and would like to start getting better. I have been buying tools as I go. I have spent a good coupl of thousand pounds over the last couple of years.
I have common sense, and the will to learn, which I am trying to do.
I joined ukat, as I was told buy a teacher on a snap on scantool course that it is a good site to get help, and learn. I never really thought I was going to get as much stick as I would. I've never been any good with writting letters, texting or writting on computers, I'm the man useing one finger to write a whole letter.
I am getting better with my scantool,but need to get better still. I know that code reading the vehicle is only the start, and component testing is a must, and good data is needed,
I'll address the previous post I've posted and been criticised for.First of all The Iveco Daily 35C11. I don't have the tools to comunicate with the ecu or any helpfull data. I Have had someone out to comunicate with it for me. The owner of the van doesn't want to eccept that the van needs money spent on it, and has now collected it. Then there is My Renault Scenic power steering fault. I did have a blond moment in being suprised to have continuity across the terminals. I am very busy with my normal work and will get back to it soon and try and figure out what is wrong with it. It's a bit of a piss of that I pay autodata all that money and there's no help at all for me with this.
As for the nissan vanette, I have gone over all the basics. fuel filter, lines, and guaze. Engine compression test, leakdown test. I did strugle with the basic timing because other mechanics had made there own marks on the cogs which threw me of. It is all done now, the valve timing any way.
The engine still doesn't run right, its starts ok, idles ok, but when reved runs rubbish and belows white smoke. I don't know how to check the injector pumps, or do the relavent adjustments, I've never done it. So am going to pass the job on.
I do want to learn more about diesels. I need to learn about injector pumps. I haven't taken it off, so I havn't got a make. If autodata is right it is a Bosch Kiki Rotary injector pump.
I do understand the basic operation of the diesel engine, but think I need to go on a course. I've been searching the net for days trying to find self help, but am not having much luck there.
I will make sure in future that I don't post rubbish posts and do all the basic checks first.

If anybody has any suggestions on learning mainly about diesel pumps bearing in mind I work 7 days a week please do share. Please if you are going to critisise don't bother. We don't all wake up one day rocket scientists.
