Opinionated, I may be wrong here, but I don't think that's what Metal was saying. My post was about the fact that, I agreed the protest was not successful and that it's not the governments job to do anything more. I was trying to submit other ideas to help these kids, who I feel, were just trying to find someway to make sense, and do something about their pain.
I was talking about honoring the kids when talking about the candlelight vigil, not the protest. Busymom said what I was trying to explain, perfectly. That it was a way for them to talk about the good times, and to let them heal without being judged.
I agree that kids know that it's dangerous, and I have never once said that they shouldn't be held accountable for their actions. That's not to say that we shouldn't have compassion for them or their loved ones after the fact. Even knowing the dangers, kids think themselves invincible. I don't think that many of them really realize that it takes only ONE time to get hooked or even die. And like I said, there are so many reasons why these kids try it. For some, the dangers are worth it to escape the pain they are feeling. For each, it's a different story. Yes, the more we pound into the kids and the parent's pound into these kids not to do it, the more they will listen. But that doesn't mean we just give up and say "oh well" to the ones already in trouble.
