@jdg What about the 14 year old that dies of an overdoes of Tylenol, she bought herself at a local QT. (Tylenol has killed more people than pot) Should we ban Tylenol, and put all it's abusers in jail?
@busymom, When a 15 yr old can get heroin...something is wrong A 15 year old in this town can find almost any drug you want (in this town.) When you force a substance into the black market, you completely deregulate it. Making it so anybody who knows the right person can get drugs, regardless of age. It's not unheard of for kids of a much younger age to not only be able to obtain drugs, but deal them and use them too.
@wyld_roze Problem with that is half these guys are getting hooked on the drugs INSIDE prison, maybe not heroin, but still, one leads to another.
I don't think that is the case, while hard criminals, do get harder in prison, The prisons are not were there drug addictions come from. Your "Slippery Slope Argument" is also logical fallacy.
@ everybody,
All drugs are dangerous when used improperly. Most have a useful purpose, be it medical or recreational. The government is now, and always will be, completely unable to regulate the responsible usage of drugs.
Putting a drug abuser in jail does nothing the curb their habit after they get out. It might keep them away from the drug (at a very high cost to tax payers,) for a time. It however, does nothing to solve the problem. With out proper treatment, once they get out (and they will) they will return to using. Trying to take drugs away from an addict, is like trying to take food away from you. I could put you on an IV diet, complete with all the nutrition you need, you would still always be hungry.
