Simmer down survivor, my comment was not directed at you, but at all the loud mouths on FB, declaring their hatred of drugs and how this latest young man didn't deserve to die, and how it's the government's fault, blah blah blah.
Hundreds and hundreds of posts from this kid's friends about how sorry they are, and how they are going to be there, and then they didn't show, nor will they fess up about where the kid got his dope.
I commend your son for having the courage to show up and stand up, but I'd bet your kid is not a heroin or drug user, and had nothing to fear.
Some of my grown kids recognize the older ones on FB posting about this, pointing fingers at each other, naming names, and my kids say they aren't wrong. It's like a whole underground of druggy kids all remorseful that someone bought the farm, but not remorseful enough to quit doing it themselves or to rat each other out.
That kid's mom has posted three or four times begging these kids to step up and do the right thing, meaning, spill their guts about who sold this kid the heroin. NOTHING. No way are they ratting out who sold it, not out of fear, but because most of them are doing it themselves and don't want to piss of their source.
One or two of them is naming names, but people are denying it. Not the accused themselves, but others who are probably scared to death their suppliers will be busted. For every name someone reluctantly posts, you will have ten defending the one named.
And it's not just a matter of getting drug dealers out of our city, after all, addicted heroin users will still travel to ESTL, North County, Collinsville, etc., and buy and supply it, but it's also a matter of parents going back to basics, telling their kids NO when they need to be told no, knowing where their kids are and who their friends are, being a presence in their school lives and stop backing off and not parenting because they want to be their child's best friend, not a respected authority figure. Kids left to raise themselves because parents are lazy or scared that their kids will be mad at them for parenting, notorioiusly make shitty choices. And by the looks of it, a whole bunch of them are making the choice to try heroin.
Like I said, one or two out there are naming names, and these aren't kids they are talking about, but young adults with children of their own who are supplying the heroin in this town.
The feeling I get when reading all those posts of FB is these kids are sorry that Cody Hyde has died, they don't think he deserved to, he was the best guy in town, but I'd bet my last dollar that his death and the death of several of their acquaintances (they all seem to know each other, user to user) will still NOT be enough for them to quit putting a needle in their arm.
They are willing to risk it, to keep the dealers a secret, to keep shooting themselves and shooting each other full of this crap, because, afterall, they are immortal, don't you know.
