By banning alcohol near a school or you 'advancing' the school.
Yes, you are attempting to advance the school. thats OK, because schools have secular purpose. (I should hope, after all the money I pay in property taxes, they keep the drunks away from the schools.)
A church has no more rights to there property than a private citizen. If a church is having a problem with a nearby establishments drunken patrons, the police and the city have courses of action. Among them, just not renewing the license. If my neighbors an I, were to start having problems with the bar down the street, they would loose there liquor license.
I do not see a secular purpose for extending extra protections to churches.
