I could be wrong or maybe I just missed it but, I don't recall reading where anyone said that you should "pay in full for your own health care".
Although, I do think that the district should NOT bare the cost of 100% coverage of the employees. Most of the working population has to pay some percentage of their health insurance.
I can't comprehend anyone complaining about having to pay $75.00 per month for health coverage for their family or thinking that the district should pay more of that tab as well.
My thoughts on that would be...welcome to the Real World. In the real world or the world of employment outside of the school district goes like this...
$200.00 per month for health insurance JUST for myself and my spouse. An additional $50.00 per month per dependent. (example...3 children $350.00 per month).
Pension...you mention "fund your own pension"...guess what, yep you guessed correct, again, welcome to the real world or employment outside of the school district. Yes, we actually are expected to, and do fund our own pension...LMAO
Now, vacations in the real world or outside of the school district.
1 year of service...1 week 2 years of service..2 weeks 3 years of service..2 weeks 4 years of service..2 weeks 5 years of service..3 weeks 10 years of service..4 weeks 20, 25, 30 etc...4 weeks is the max. Can you imagine being expected to work all year round? My guess is, no.
Sick days...3 Personal days...zip
Prep hour, yeah we have that, the only difference between our prep hour and yours is...we spend ours hitting the snooze one time and then having a cup of coffee before we clock in. And, you guessed it, we don't get paid for it.
