You said it so well.. +1 to you.
I am not verbatim on your list of candidates, but +1 for putting things in the right perspective.
I also agree about the young guys.
We need people experienced with - MONEY, the Law, Buildings and Grounds, people that know about grants and state and federal regulations...
I think the young guys pave us a bright future, but now would be a little premature.
Either way, I don't decry the nepotism too loudly if they are the best qualified and do the best for the kids.
There really are some people there, though, that should not be teaching. There are some really good reasons why test scores are not where they need to be.
Some things an effective school board can do to improve the situation, and other things they can't do a single thing without being railroaded by the union or through all these laws they have to abide in. Sometimes it's even impossible to keep discipline without the threat of a lawsuit.
I want to know what the school board is doing wrong that cannot be solved by teachers who take their jobs seriously, and more importantly parents who take their role more seriously.
The sense of entitlement needs to end and the school where that happens is in the home. Anything more than food, water, heat, basic clothing, and an education is a PRIVILEGE.
I want to know exactly what this current board did that made education worse here and what a new board can do better.
People say the strict dress code was ridiculous. Maybe it was, but despite its unpopularity, at least the board acted to ease some of the tensions.
Did they require the teachers to also look professional?
If the dress code at home had higher standards, and kids were taught dignity, the School wouldn't have needed to tell the kids how to dress.
My point with all of this is one thing -- by what measure has the current school board been effective and ineffective?
