IN A UNION SETTING, get it?
If you aren't in a union setting where you don't have paid thugs to strong arm companies, you are basically on your own as "wrongful termination" is nearly impossible to prove in court and win.
Short of a sexual harassment issue, whistleblower issue...there isn't a lot to hold on to.
And union labor has more than it's fair share of goldbricking, lazy, no brain, unskilled laborers who don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to representing themselves to an employer and earning wage increases and promotions based on performance.
I managed a successful career based on my knowledge and performance, taking pride in a job well done, thankfully, my company being non-union, was not forced to pay the nose picker in the corner who smelled like pee the same salary I earned.
Honestly, how insulting and demeaning is that?
You can work like a fool, with zero absenteeism, go above and beyond, own your responsibilities, strive to escalate within the company...or you pay someone a little each week out of your check to earn the same salary, again...as the nose picker standing in the corner who smells like pee?
