any of you realize that this district was the only one out of Alton,Collinsville, and Edwardsville, who did not layoff a single teacher or administrator this year. Those they did layoff and there were very few, most if not all have been rehired.
What is wrong with this statement? Hmmmmmm
Teach, I would like for you to explain to me, clearly, why teachers should ALWAYS BE IMMUNE TO SALARY FREEZES, or basically ANY CONCESSION OF ANY TYPE.
Look at the UAW, "we are standing pat, we will not budge, we want this and we want that, and HELL NO WE WILL CONCEDE NOTHING".
Uh oh, this plant, SHUT DOWN, that plant, SHUT DOWN, three more plants, SHUT DOWN...then what does UAW say..."HEY, DON'T ELIMINATE OUR JOBS, WE'LL CONCEDE, WE'LL WORK WITH YA...UNCLLLEEEEEE!"
And if you can give me a few examples of ANY industry or company that offers FREE, COMPLETELY FREE health insurance to an employee, and nearly free health insurance coverage to their spouses EVEN IF THOSE SAID SPOUSES HAVE COVERAGE THROUGH THEIR OWN EMPLOYMENT, I would really, really like to see it.
I understand that teaching is a wonderful job, a great way to make a difference (when and if the teacher wants to), but you carry on like they should be held in the same regard as someone who might cure cancer.....really?
I'm sorry, I can't see someone teaching a keyboarding class in a room with a bank of computers that has "Mavis Beacon" downloaded on them earning seventy thousand dollars a year.
"Ok class, click on the "Mavis Beacon" icon, and follow the on screen instructions for the next fifty five minutes." "Where's my paycheck?"
Pfffffffffffft
I say the district should hold out for a wage freeze, and at the very least, some type of wage contribution to not only the teacher's health insurance, but to their family coverage as well.
