The way I read her post, he was tested for the gifted program because of the high scores he made on the ISAT test. I think the teacher was assuming he wasn't taking it seriously when obviously he was.
Years ago, my husband was taking a test in a drafting class and everything had to be done freehanded. The teacher gave him an F on the test because he said my husband used a straight edge, which he didn't. He said there's no way anyone could make that straight of a line freehanded. The teacher was wrong. I've seen him do it. Teachers do sometimes make assumptions and sometimes they are wrong. I think we have many very good teachers, but they're not all perfect.
