You hammer this through the tax code, disallowance of interest deductions and a surtax above a threshold is totally fine and would stop the practice instantly. I don't think that a handful of companies are responsible for this issue, though, I think the aspiring Mini Trumps with 6 rentals and 5 AirBNBs are far more culpable than Blackstone. I don't think the Feds really should be doing much on this issue. Where it should be addressed is locally where it is a problem.
