Their sister station in San Francisco, 740 KCBS has been simulcasting on 106.9 KFRC for 15 years. They never changed the calls of the FM. The calls mean nothing.

CBS swapped KFRC-AM with Family Radio for the 106.9 frequency so they could launch the failed "Free FM" format they ran in every market. When Free FM failed, they brought the Classic Hits format that was running on 99.7 KFRC-FM (Now KMVQ) back, but only for a year before flipping it to the KCBS simulcast.

The KFRC Classic Hits format was actually running on 106.9 HD2 consistently since until they shut off most of their HD2 channels earlier this year.
