I have never claimed to be an expert on anything and certainly never being... the almighty.
But what I am is someone who isn't willing to give up! Like many, I have chosen to stay in Granite and hope to see it rebound.

My comment to Poor Ol Elroy that "we need to pull together" was just that... Let's pull together and try to make Granite a better place however we can, either by forming city clean ups, shopping and supporting local businesses as often as we can, or talking, posting, sharing and just promoting the positive things that we do have.

How can we expect for anyone on the outside to see us is a positive way when we don't ourselves.

I'm not asking anyone to look at ourselves with rose colored glasses.

There's always things that need to be done and must be done for a community to not just survive but thrive. So speak out about concerns and needs but also speak out about what we do have.

When I hear people say I wish we had a store like decor restore in Edwardsville I just shake my head because we do, it's called Revival in downtown. Or when people say to me, as they walk around my bookstore, "I bet this place would do really well in Glen Carbon or Edwardsville"
My question is why can't we do well here?
I also don't understand those who choose to go to another cinema when the movie they are seeing is being shown here in a beautiful state of the art theater!
If we want even less than we have now keep spending your money elsewhere, when it can be spent here.

The one thing that is glaringly obvious (to me) is a shift in community pride. Just drive down Madison Ave. and see the trash a debris strewn from one end to the other! Just a few months ago over 100 volunteers cleaned that area and today it looks as though nothing had ever been done.

And God for bid what if a big box is never willing to invest! I hope that's not the case but if it is... what then? Do we all give up?

All I know is there are much smaller communities all around this region that hasn't had the industrial base that we've had but they've been able to create an inviting community to live in, start a business in, and be proud of!

For now I'm not willing to throw in the cards and I'm hoping there are enough who feel the same!

Get involved however you can if you want things to change!
