Collinsville's sales tax would go up to one of the highest in the state (which is a negative..I believe it would be approx. 8%), and Edwardsville opposes it.
For exactly the reason Horsey indicates. So, why not let some of the money that we spend in those towns trickle back to us?
While it may not be a huge advantage, the way I see it..why not let Granite get a share of the pie?
There are enough people who used to (and still do) make a great living in Granite despite not living here (meaning their property tax money goes to another town..eg, E-ville, C-ville, etc), and lots of us spend money all across MadCo (not to mention 55/70 runs through Madison County).
(Just one part of my thought process, the main one still being that Illinois is a failed state, and the calvary from there aint coming).
