"Dad went past his authority when he broke the rule. The school not only has the right but the responsibility to protect the other children in that building and to maintain order."
This is true, but did the situation call for the police to actually be called? Not even close, no.
This situation was not escalated by the parent. It was escalated by Mark Lull, the school's principal by him responding to this parent with a cocky, overly confident attitude, smiling and smirking in this parent's face, eventually laughing that he WOULD get his way by having this man's child sit in detention, if not that day, then tomorrow, or the next, but by God and at any cost Mark Lull made for sure he drove that point home to this parent.
It is the actions of this principal who escalated what could have been a civil conversation with this parent, that lead to a simple solution. Instead, he not only was going to make an example out of this 6 year old, but he was going to try to make an example out of his father too by calling the police department.
I heard he tried to have this man arrested in front of his children, have him hand cuffed and hauled away in a police car, and the police eventually reasoned with the principal that there was absolutely no need or reason to take this situation that far.
"in loco parentis" a seed planted by this principal. His word against this father's word. He planted a seed of this parent being unreasonable, and you run with the idea and start using examples like "in loco parentis". PROVE IT!
The proof is in the tapes. Show them. That is what the security system is in place for. Review the tapes and prove the behavior this parent is being accused of. Review the tapes and prove this child was eventually taken to the cafeteria to be fed lunch like Allayna Carnahan is claiming. My guess is the school won't take the chance of the real truth coming out.
I heard these parents are considering a law suit against the school, the principal and the entire district. I have never been pro lawsuit, but in this case, I hope they do. Just one damn time, someone needs to take a stand against this district to show them, they are touchable and can be held accountable.
I even heard rumors of someone starting a fund to help these parent's cover the cost of legal fees. I hope they do that too. I would gladly contribute!
To poor ol elroy, it's funny how you said you would not want to be a teacher today. That's a relief, as I'm sure most that know you, are relieved that you're not interested!
