Was this "new" practice of signaling for the kids to come in as opposed to yelling just started this week? School has been in session for a month or so. I know when my youngest was in school they put a sign in the window for the grade level that was supposed to be in the cafeteria at that time.
Secondly, did the child not notice that his classroom peers were not with him on the playground?
As for the school not knowing where he was? Well I would imagine they knew he was in the cafeteria or on the playground. They certainly can't be expected to know each and every child by name or grade level.
As for detention? That seems harsh, especially for a six year old. I would think a note would have been sent home first to try to correct the problem.
By the post, I would assume this parent was pretty charged up when he went to school. If I was the principal and felt a parent, in this day and age, was being aggressive, I would probably call the police as well. Also, parents don't have the right to go to their child's classroom without permission of the office. That's a rule to protect ALL children in the building.
I hope something like this gets resolved. We don't need six year olds afraid to go to school. We don't need parents to get so out of hand that police are called to the building. All the kids in that building deserve better.
I would love to hear the other side of this story as well. Not saying the parent isn't being 100 per cent honest but there are always two sides and two impressions of any argument.
Please keep us posted on any further development and let's hope your child is feeling better about his ordeal.
