This is not a problem of not having enough money. The average home owner in granite pays enough in property tax to put a kid though private school every year. They have plenty of money coming in, they just keep wasting it on stupid ideas like "attendance centers" and remodeling schools only to close them a year later (to turn into offices for the admin?). They have most likely already spent more money circling the wagons, than it would cost to have bought a dime store whistle for every cafeteria in the district, and fixed the problem.
The is what happens when you have Illinois politicians and bureaucrats caring more about their pensions, than the kids they purport to serve.
Look people, the teachers and their unions do not put your kids first. They put themselves first, and will continue to do so, regardless. If people had more school choice this would not be a problem. After all, it is not of the benevolence of a baker that I have bread today, rather it's because of his selfishness. I however, have a choice in bread, so he makes the best bread he can, for the quality I willing to pay for.
