As far as I know, the district stopped paying for the masters program, but I couldn't say for sure as I am not an educator. I do believe they had a program with McKendree University that it all worked through.

I understand your point about being paid from local taxes, that you should spend the money here. Part of the problem with that, is that you can't spend it on things that are not present here. That, plus when you have to be responsible with your own income, you may need to spend those dollars in the best possible way. Living paycheck to paycheck is not fun and unfortunately, many people have to do that. If not, then you start getting more people looking at getting on welfare as their solution.

If you live in Illinois, but work in Missouri (or vice-versa), would you fill your car up here in Illinois or in Missouri knowing that typically there is a 20-30 cent price difference between the two states? Part of those price differences are due to taxes. I realize not everyone gets to have that luxury of buy cheaper gas in another state.

Oddly enough, if you buy $1000 in building supplies from Lowes in Granite City and you buy $1000 of building supplies at Lowes in Glen Carbon, you are better off going to Glen Carbon because their sales tax is less than Granite's. Over time, that adds up. If it's your money, you spend it as wisely as you can in the game of life.

As for parochial schools, if a family wants to send their kids there truly for religious reasons (faith), that is up to them and it is their right. They still pay taxes for the school district regardless, just as people without kids in school. I totally agree with you about taking the "great pay", but sending their kids to St. Elizabeth or Holy Family if they feel that the public system isn't good enough. When you take that attitude, then you need to attempt to step up and make it better.

As for the bit*****, yes, everyone does hear it as you mentioned. I think my point was that some of those people should try walking a teacher's shoes for a year to see what they have to put up with - sometimes unruly kids, sometimes unruly parents. I know when I was growing up (as I am sure it was like this with you Opie) and if I were to get a bad grades, my parents would have been jumping my butt about it. These days, I think you see more parents jumping the teachers butt over their kid's poor grades.

Many things need to be fixed here.
