I know there was a big stink over the band program being cut, and I am a huge advocate for the arts. It is my understanding that the band program was "saved", but at what cost? Does anyone know if this was just political manipulation to make the school board appear more benevolent by "saving" a program that many care about?

And as far as people worrying about the band directors we have losing their jobs, why do we as a community care? 80% of the band directors don't live in this community and have said with their actions that Granite City is a place to exploit for generous salaries, but not a place to invest anything into.

On a more personal note teachers: if you don't like pay freezes and job cuts and school closings, maybe your collective lack of investing anything in this community has something to do with it. What, more than half of you no longer live in this community? It's unacceptable for a group of people to expect my support when they don't help to support me. By bringing your nice salaries to Granite, you would be helping teachers keep jobs and get raises. Amazing how that works.
