Just out of curiosity, when has there ever been a residency requirement for school teachers? I could see that for firemen or police to live within so many miles of their respective stations for the sheer fact that in an emergency, you can get there since you are fairly local. I don't see that need for teachers, for school board members, yes, because they are elected by us to be the go between of the taxpayers and the parents and the school system.

What about all of the people that work outside of Granite City, but live in Granite City? Seems like that is bringing money into this city that was generated elsewhere.

If there was a residency requirement for teachers, then I assume the best place to be would be to live in a tiny town and be one of the only teachers there and then make a killing on the paycheck for being the only skilled labor in town for that job.

I guess the other thing to consider is what about the teachers that live in Granite City, but work for Collinsville, Maryville, Alton, Glen Carbon or Edwardsville? Why don't you complain about those teachers since they are taking that money (from those cities' bread baskets) and spending it here in Granite City.

Where the teachers live is hardly the problem here. Seems to me the most pressing issue is what is the school board doing with the money. It is a combination of the state of Illinois and the school board. Teachers went to a college or a university to get a degree to teach, some have received their masters degrees. It seems to me that these people have busted their tails to be educators. And honestly, I think they (teachers) probably put up with a lot of crap from people that barely make it out of high school as well as from people that have gone for more schooling that like to put teachers down or have an axe to grind or are just bandwagons to blame the teachers.

Those that b###h and crab about teachers, should maybe sign up at SIUE (since it's close) or some other school, go get your teaching degrees, and get into a Granite City classroom. It's put up or shut up!
