I think the problem is the words government regulation in what has been private enterprize. The leading cause of personal bankruptcy is people spending money they don't have trying to keep up with the Jones's.
if you recall, time was given to insurance companies to resolve their own problems and bring costs down. obviously they failed. the private industry of HEALTH, a service essential to life, needed this regulation.
when dealing with reality, you see that healthcare costs were the leading cause of bankruptcy, not "keeping up with the Jone's" or irresponsible spending by families across the country. people were bankrupted for seeking care and insurance. period.
I think at this point that is purely speculation.
it is...but it is an educated speculation. i say this because under the new reform, preventative care is covered without a co-pay or deductible; essentially "free." this will help catch health ailments before they linger on and cause more damage and in turn keep people generally healthier. i do not have data to back this up, but if the house gets back to work and listens to the people who rule them, we could eventually have this data in our hands. at that point, i am willing to bet we will see less sick days and time missed working.
if we raised the minimum wage to 11$ an hour, under "Obamacare" people would pay 19$ a month for bronze coverage. as is in Illinois, min. wage workers pay 0$ monthly premiums. this will all help make us more productive.
I believe that is exactly what Mr. Obama is asking us to do. Here's the problem though. I get no satisfaction out of telling someone I told you so when their idea is outrageous as this one is.
Allow an "old man" to digress. When my son was little he touched the stove and burned his hand. I felt bad because he was hurt and I had failed to instruct him not to do it. When my daughter was small I told her, " don't touch the hot stove. Better to learn by facts until the idea is proven
nice anecdote and ideology based argument based in fear you present here...but allowing someone with diabetes to get insurance is outrageous to you? try again opi, and please explain; exactly what is it you find so outrageous about this reform/regulation that makes it an impossibility to allow under any circumstance?
President Obama is not the only one asking, and most of America is damn near demanding - we re-elected Obama and the people have spoken. we try it, if it fails we try again. i re-iterate; teapublicans are unwilling to give it a try because they know it will be a success.
