River, my gutter downspouts are extended from my home underground and out into my yard where the water comes up through a pop up drain head and disperses into the grass. My sump pump, which fortunately doesn't have to run too often, does much the same only it's dispersed over a gravel area in my back yard.
I know people tie into their sewers but I don't think the city " condones " it as was stated by the MESD board representative. Keep in mind though that he's covering his ass.
