I will give you that salaries will have to be looked at in the future. There is little doubt that the path can be continued. I doubt you'll see teachers take a pay cut. They would strike first and I believe you as a parent would not like that. The board can do whatever they like to the administrators. They're not protected by a union so yes, their salaries can be cut. Pensions are state driven. Local authorities merely pay into them. My guess is our new governor will have some impact on this issue before he leaves office. The programs will suffer. They've already cut some art and music at the middle schools. They got rid of a drafting program at the high school. Will they cut band and football? I doubt it but there are other sports, clubs and programs that could be eliminated if this fails. Let's look at it from this perspective. When my kids were in school I paid taxes and they have gone up steadily. When your children were in school I still paid taxes as did you, and those taxes went up steadily. I look at this as a fair exchange, giving kids of the future what my kids and yours had. Your children were probably effected by the strike in 2001. That was a tough time but as you said, your children still did well thanks to some good teachers and yes, some not so good. More money or less money won't change how individual teachers do their jobs. It might however though change the things that this generation of kids have opportunity for.
