Spruce, Most kids these days are dropped off and picked off by parents/relative/neighbors/friends. You dont see many who walk. Mine walked to school their entire school years. What gets me is I have been told the district must provide kids who live a certain distance with bus transportation wether they use it or not. Many buses are not full in the mornings or afternoons. I think this arrangement is costing the district a lot of unneccessary monies and they dont seem to want to create a solution. My solution is too require every parent/guardian of every child in the district to fill out a form, just they do for everything else before the school year starts and state if their child is going to use the bus. I think they would be surprised at how many never use the bus that is provided for them. This could greatly reduce the amount of buses needed for their contracted bus service. It can be done to reduce costs. The district just needs to buckle down and start looking for alternative ways to save on transportation.
