Relying or expecting the police to be involved in every incident where parents allow their children to behave like heathens would require a separate police department.
When all is said and done, the business owner is allowed to make a decision like this, and I'm sure it didn't just evolve out of thin air.
He had probably had enough of today's parents who abide by the "kids will be kids" theory and expect other patrons to just buck up and smile while their unruly children were climbing over chairs, under tables, destroying the bathroom, being loud and rude.
Yes, it is the parents responsibility to teach their children to behave appropriately, but the bottom line is, that is happening less and less.
Some parents simply don't have any sense, and it's not the responsibility of a restaurant owner to teach them how to behave socially. He was probably tired of the complaints, or just plain tired of dealing with people's kids while the parents just sat there.
I have no problem with child-free establishments, and believe you me, there are many times I would choose to frequent them.
Does that mean I discriminate against or dislike children?
No, it means I don't want to nor have to deal with them at a particular time.
People are just going to have to deal with the fact that there are certain places their little Madison and Taylor are no longer welcome. It will not result in them ending up on Oprah or Dr. Oz down the road, they won't require therapy, they will learn to deal, unlike their parents who come from a generation where "no" was frowned upon, big time, and was seldom heard.
Good grief, fighting for your children is one thing when it comes to health, education and safety, but to be so fired up because they are no longer allowed in an up-scale restaurant, sheeesh, take 'em to Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel.
