GIT, I'm not a crabby person and I love children. I don't even mind children being a little noisy in a family restaurant. But if my husband and I were to go out to an upscale restaurant for a nice anniversary dinner, I wouldn't expect the restaurant to be full of children and noisy. I would expect a quiet pleasant dinner if I'm spending that much money.

My daughter works in a family restaurant and much of the time she enjoys serving families with children. However, you wouldn't believe how many parents let their children run all over the store, crawling under tables and disrupting other guests. She even had a mother go out to her car to wait until the child was done "playing" in the restaurant. She came back in, asked the child if she was done playing yet, and when the child said no, the mother went back out to her car. And we're not talking about a McDonald's with a play area.

I'm sure the manager of the upscale restaurant in question, tried asking people to leave if their children were disruptive, before finally making the decision to ban children all together. I don't have a problem with this AT ALL in an upscale restaurant. If you want to take your children to dinner, take them to a family restaurant where the whole family can enjoy it.
