I was recently looking back over previous posts and I found one regarding the topic of welfare and social security.

I wanted to share a story with y'all.

Several months ago, I was getting my hair done at my usual place, of which I have seriously curtailed my visits to for lack of funds. I now have cut back my appointments severly, and in-between, I "get rid of the gray' my doing it myself. I promise this info is relevent, because it shows that people have to make serious financial adjustments in these difficult economic times. As I was sitting there, a young Mother comes in with her 4 year old son for a tanning session. She goes to the assigned area, leaves her child to the care of anyone else in the shop, at which time the little guy begins to create havoc with the haircutters who are now taking time away from their own livelihood to watch this stranger's child. After her relaxing and I'm sure meditative session in the tube, all of the other customers are on the edge of their seats from protecting their assets from the unsupervised holy terror in the room. As "the Mother" was paying for her service, I was in a better angle to get a good look at her. She was about 19 years old, had on Nike sweats with a Hollister hoodie, very stylish UGG boots. She was sporting very expensive highlights and her manicure was impeccable. Her son was making his request for a candy bar from the counter, and "the Mother' replied, "You can't have it from here, these people don't take LINK cards. We'll go down the street to QuickTrip so I don't have to spend my cash." After recovering from my state of shock at her response, I told her that with the LINK card, I was buying her son's candy with my cash. Needless to say, she grabbed her kid and stormed off.

My point I guess, I totally understand when people need help through difficult times. Public Aid should still be looked at as a temporary thing, not a way of life. She is also passing along her fiscal irresponsibily to her child. I'll be he already knows the differnce between non-food items and what LINK will pay for.

I'm sure everyone on this website has a story like mine. Don't mean to bring everyone down today, but do you think if we started bringing this to the public's attention when we see it, it may jog something in the abuser's conscience.

Probably not, but it sure made me feel better that day, and earned me a High 5 from my hairdresser.

    Go STEELERS!!!
