Jim . . . buddy . . . you could care for my family member or myself anyday . . . but, you're logic is killing me! MD's enter medical school right out of college with little to no experience and SUPERVISE both CRNA and AA's. AA's have double the clinical experience in their program than a CRNA does making up for any inaccurately perceived critical care shortfall. I am coming from a paramedic background and getting ready to start AA school. I can do more withOUT calling a doc than you ever could as an RN in an ICU setting WITH a doc. I cut throats on trauma patient's and run cardiac arrests on medical patient's BY MYSELF WITHOUT A DOC. WAY more pressure than the unlimited resources of an ICU. The point is, there are crappy CRNA's and crappy AA's. There are also great CRNA's and great AA's. The same applies to MD's. The logic problem is that you are labeling the capability of a person based upon their career tract. Not only is this illogical, but it isn't backed by research. For example, both the ASA and the program in Cleveland (which is as unbiased as you can get as they train both AA's and CRNA's) have done research on the safety and effectiveness of CRNA's vs. AA's. This research was used as the basis for Kentucky's decision to license AA's. The result was that there was no difference in care provided by an AA vs. CRNA. In closing . . . Jim . . . buddy . . . be logical . . . bash the individual, not the profession. Especially since your logic puts you on a tract to bash the MD profession. Can't we all just get along and reliaze that the medical shortage will NEVER end and that both AA and CRNA tracts are equal? Everyone has their bad apples, that's just the human condition . . .
