The CRNAs on this site like to use the argument that they're superior because they work independently. The truth is that most do not.
Straight from the AANA website:
"Approximately 80% of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) work as partners in care with anesthesiologists, while the remaining 20% function as sole anesthesia providers working and collaborating with surgeons and other licensed physicians. The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) supports both practice models and believes that quality outcomes are excellent in both".
Let's see... that's about 6000 independent (in rural areas only) and 30,0000 working under anesthesiologists. So before you criticize AAs for being doctor's assistants, remember that you are also criticizing the 30,000 CRNA doctor assistants.
