Thanks for the vote DC but the AANA as been acting as a "CRNA union" for years. Anything that promotes increase pay, benefits, professional standing for CRNAs is "good." Anything that might threaten CRNAs, even if it is a better choice for society, is "bad."
I am one of the few CRNAs who will admit that as a profession, nurse anesthetists have dropped the ball. We were so concerned about our professional status we failed to ensure sufficient numbers. And while we have opened up more schools and increased class size, we still have not even come close to supplying the demand for new providers. And part of that is because our BASE is RNs. And the RNs, like the CRNAs have done the exact thing and the RNs are not graduating enough to keep up with the demand for nurses.
If GM, Ford, and Chrysler can not supply cars that people want, they should get out of the way of Toyota, Honda and Mercedes who can. And the same with the AANA and CRNAs. They are can not supply providers that people needs, so they should get out of the way of the AAs who can.
IMO the AANA is not the solution to the anesthesia shortage, it is part of the problem.
