I agree. Some 35 years ago I bought a 12 gauge Pigeon Grade Smith with DT and AE from a pawn shop/second hand gun store- $250.00 I wish I had kept it, traded it for a Parker-and they are indeed fine guns as well, but I concur with Mr. McIntosh in his book "Best Guns" about the sculpting of the frame, sideplates of the pre-1913 Smiths-also the wood to metal fit and the quality of the checking, etc. I now own two Smith 2E 12 bores, one mfg. in 1895, the other in 1907- I plan to get a 35mm camera and take fotos, especially of the engraving, and send them to fellow member Mr. Andy Anderson, as from the September newsletter I gather that he is doing a research paper on Grade 2 engraving. After 1913, when Hunter Arms Co. went to the: Field, Ideal, Specialty- etc. to which corresponding grade did the Grade 2 pertain I wonder?
