At my age, I have decided to be a little selfish on this issue. At this stage of my life, I really could not care less if they had to lock the doors and roll up the sidewalks to every school in this city. My grandchildren can go to private schools or be home schooled. This situation the district has found itself in, is a direct result of greed and entitlement. They piss and moan and like to point fingers at the state, the state owes this and that. That is nothing more than a piss poor attempt at a distraction as to what is and has been going on. In a town with the population of less than thirty thousand, how can anyone justify these salaries and perks? The Administration is the problem here, not the state. When you have Principals and assistant Principals and teachers making well over six figure salaries, and the school district they work for has to cut music programs and PE and can not even afford to replace "outdated text books", that's correct parents, they have been teaching your children from outdated text books, something is wrong! What is wrong is not the amount of taxes being paid to support the district, it is how the money is being spent. When I see the district decide to get serious and do their part by trimming the fat and reel in these salaries and stop the perks, then and only then will I give some thought into dipping into my bank account to hand over more money. I am not anti-union, but I say negotiate responsibly. When you have someone representing secretaries and custodians and they are insisting that filing and answering phones or sweeping up floors and mopping up an occasional puddle of puke and emptying trash cans justify 50 K a year or more salary, I call bullsh*t! Grow a pair, regardless who the secretary or custodian may be a brother or sister of, or who they may be married to or connected to, keep the salaries realistic. No district vehicles to be taken off school property after school hours. No gas allowance for anyone, I don't give a rats ass who they are. How did this good ole boy system that is in place ever become acceptable to the residents of this town? Brainless block head has been coaches with just enough brains to barely scrape by, end up being promoted from a football field to Administrators. Back in the day these positions required intelligence and a whole lot of respect. It is this good ole boy entitled attitude that has drained this district dry and now they are wanting more of our tax dollars to clean up their mess so they can " meet current financial responsibilities". I say quit sticking your hand out wanting more of our money, and cut your financial responsibilities! Instead of threatening the parents of the district with "drastic cuts", how about rolling up your sleeves and cleaning house. This does not mean doubling class sizes etc, this means shaving tens of thousands off of some of these salaries. Make all district employees pay a fair share of their insurance coverage. I say quit playing the blame game with the state and hold yourself accountable for your over spending. For those of you who will disagree stating how not supporting this tax increase is not supporting our city and will only have a negative impact on our property values, my property value has steadily going down the toilet for the last few years and I will be more than happy to support my city in other ways. I am not willing to further support the bloated salaries of the employees of this district and all connected directly or indirectly to it.
