Hello John, Let me answer some of your condescending questions. I will do it by breaking down your impeccable logic. Firts one: If you had a choice (a vote) what would you rather have a bond issue for: street and sewer repairs or downtown revitalization? Easy, downtown revitalization! Otherwise why fix a sewer pipe in an area falling down. Besides there has bee a great deal of road repair in the downtown TIF district. Don't forget you were not given a choice, so why support a failure. If we don’t have a choice, why did you offer a vote? This part of your discussion just makes no sense at all. We do have a choice and we choose the downtown. In 5 years, millions of dollars, what have you got? We have: Year one: The city needs to apply for TIF. This is not something easily accomplished. It needs Fed and State Rep approval and took at least a year. Art events start downtown starting with student. Year Two: Purchasing of dilapidated buildings and selling them. This took a year. In this year they also fixed the streetscape. Formed the HARC committee and met with St. Luis, St.Charles, and University Loop and Paducah Ky officials for guidance in the revitalization. And the installation of police safety cameras in the downtown. Art events continue in the downtown with invited art groups. And the annual block party at Mingo’s. Year three: People purchase their buildings and prepare to open businesses. The HARC Committee establishes new downtown guidelines eliminating counterproductive businesses and promotes the arts. Art event continue with public iron pours. Year four. Updated police and fire departments A new theater bringing in $40 thousand dollars a month A new youth center providing support for community youths. The new open-air market begins in the middle of downtown Two new art galleries Art event continue with a larger public iron pour in Lincoln plc.. 3 florists a pizza place and eight new businesses and counting. How many jobs? Well that depends, are you looking for quantity or quality. You can bulldoze the entire downtown and turn it into warehouses but that will not produce many jobs. The new downtown is a “place”. Meaning a special area people want to go, not just to shop but to be. And just when do you think the city council will get around to fixing streets? Really? This is your question? Should it be “And just when do you think the city council will get around to fixing streets by my house.” Roads trump all these things? Where are they going to get the money? The TIF district is something you need to read up on. As far as the roads in our city, which share no funds with the downtown will come at its own pace. What happened to the supposed interested buyers Hagnauer had for the old YNMCA building, what happened to the makeover of the Guardian Savings Building, the old Elks building. As with everything in the downtown, The administration cannot make up a business to put in a building. A business has to want to move down there. With a building the size of the YMCA and the OLD Elks Building, which both need millions of dollars in repairs just to open the doors, That company will have to invest and finding the right owner will take time. More than a year. The Guardian will fill sooner as it is in better shape. I understand the TIF law, [NO you do not. Otherwise you would see your complaint about roads isn’t even related.] what I don't understand is why you and others support a pipe dream. It’s not a pipe dream. I just listed reality. It’s a reality you disagree with but non the less you will have to grit your teeth and take it like a man.
