Catch, I think it's because too many people have bought into the misconception that somehow we're not good enough. We've allowed the Evilleites to put us down to a point where we believe we don't, or better still, our kids don't deserve what they have up there. It makes me sick. Granite kids are just as good if not better than kids anywhere. Yet we allow bogus test score reports, the fact that some of our kids have O.D.'d to think that this town is full of nothing but hoodlums. The kids in my neighborhood are honor students. They play sports or are in plays. Yet the kids in E'ville look down on them. It's BS. People in GC need to realize that hard times don't mean we're not a good commnity. We have much to be proud of. We've got the best parks in Madison County. See how many other communities put on a fireworks show like ours does. See how many kids go to the park in formals to have their pics taken because it's such a great place. The schools in GC are good ones. They look nice and appear to be well maintained. Do our kids play on artificial turf? No but when they're my age they'll remember playing a sport, not where they played it. Are our streets in bad shape? Some of them. However we don't have county money being poured in our downtwon like E'ville does. While our county taxes pay for their streets in their business district, we struggle. Do potholes suck? Yes they do. They'll be fixed. Do we pay the taxes E'ville does? I doubt it. I know my home in Edwardsville would sell for twenty five thousand more than it would here but I know I would also pay $700 more in taxes. And for what? Better police? Hardly! Better fire protection? No way! More effective government? I doubt it. I'm from Granite and I'm proud of it. I live here, I'll die here and Mrs. O will visit my grave here. You don't like my town? Too bad! It's home. It's where I chosse to be and that makes it okay by me. And that concludes my daily rant.
