This article was very interesting to me. I have long told folks that I thought I may have been the last, or one of the last people to have seen Patsy Cline alive. As it turns out, not the last but certainly one of the last. Back on the morning of March 5th 1963 I was asked to fly a Piper Colt belonging to Siloam Springs, AR airport over to Rogers, for its annual license check. Upon arriving at the airport I was not able to immediately taxi to the gas pumps as there was a Piper Comanche (I believe 250 it's been a long time), parked at the pumps with a gentlemen standing on the wing with the door open. shortly a young woman came out of the hanger and quickly walked up to the plane where upon the gentleman helped her up on the wing and into the back seat, At that time it appeared she was sitting in the right side rear seat. The gentleman then pushed the front seat back, climbed in and closed the door. The plane taxied away and I pulled up our little colt to the pumps. When I got out the line boy said something to me like "did you see those folks in the plane?" "They're western singers come from KC and heading to Nashville, I hope they make it." "Why?" I asked, "well", he said "they have suitcases, guitars, and there are 4 people in that plane and they had me top off the tanks. They are heavy". We stood there and watched them take off. Rogers had a 5000 ft runway in those days and they used most of it to get off the ground and slowly disappeared into the low overcast. The next day, our local Newspaper in Siloam Springs had the very sad news spread across the front page in big black letters. I always wondered if I had really seen them and had told several folks I was pretty sure it was them but after reading your article now I know it was.
