A DoF would implement a playing style and identity and then he would recruit managers to suit that identity. The manager and DoF would then recruit players to suit that style and identity
If the DoF and a manager agree that the identity and style needs to change, then a long term plan is put in place to gradually build towards that place. Rather than a new manager coming in, ripping everything up and insisting that the players, from Day 1, play the way he prefers even if he doesn't have the players to do it
With the current way the football club is 'organised', when Wilshere leaves or is sacked, the rancid cycle starts again and another manager will come in with HIS own style and the players will have to adapt yet again
That constant churn and change is utter insanity. We got promoted to the Prem through years of playing a certain way and recruiting for that certain way. Then, that got thrown out of the window instead of gradually building to something else. And, here we are
