Sunderland brought in a DoF and his brief was to bring in young, technically gifted players with sell-on value. He had really good oversees contacts and although it took time the project eventually worked and they got to the Prem.

The managers they bought in were clear on this brief from day one. Eventually they got a manager in who found a way of making it work.

It's not perfect but it meant there was consistency throughout the club despite several managerial changes. We seem to be on a pathway of lurching from one disaster to another with absolutely no plan whatsoever.
