When do you move over? Archived Message

Why is it that once people get elected into a position, they refuse to step aside and clear the path for people with newer, fresher and younger ideas. Is it the power that is felt by these people that will not allow them to bow out in a timely manner?

It's just like the late and very admired Helen Hawkins. She was loved by many of the people she represented, yet truth be told, she should have taken her leave several years ago.

This example leads me to our school board members. Why is it, once some have raised their children to adulthood, and now are enjoying grandchildren, and great grandchildren and in some cases retirement, they refuse to step away to clear the path for the next generation?

There is no escaping aging. We all do it. I also believe that age is just a number (in certain circumstances), but there also comes a time when common sense and reason should overrule the selfish desire for status and control, and lets most people realize their time has came and gone and that they have fulfilled their duties and served the public well. In facing that realization they can take their leave with dignity, and at the same time open the doors for new beginnings and possibilities.

This leads me to the reelection of school board members.

Bev Scroggins, I'm not sure how long she has served on the school board, and you will be hard pressed to find any mention of her age in print, but it is time to pass the torch.

Kathy Hagnauer, age, mid 60's the same applies for her as well.

Bill McMasters, age 65 plus, although he has not served as long as others, the same applies.

Linda Knogl, age, mid seventies, same applies.

Carolyn Yates, age, mid 70's, same applies.

How can we keep voting these same people onto our school board, and hope for changes for the better? These people at their age are set in their ways and have limited ideas for the future, with the mind set of "this is always how we have done it". Or "we have been doing it this way for years". Folks, if you want change, you had better wise up and make it happen with your votes, because it's painfully obvious if you don't, the only way these current members will be leaving this board will be feet first!
