If the Warriors could get themselves a billiards league going --- and if the gods of IHSA would permit them to do it.... they would be State Champions. Or forget about the IHSA. Entry fee ... Three Quarters to go into the slot to release the pool balls.
Imagine all the dads in town helping their kids on their weekends to shoot better pool. It could be a bonding experience to pass the craft on.
Yeah -- it has a facetious tone, it's my humor style... But I'm not making fun -- I've lost a number of pool games, to where my friends would make me the beer runner. (I'd be the treasurer, because they would still need to pony up the cash) The caliber of pool play in GC was very high back in the day and I am sure it hasn't changed.
there has to be a glut of talent in town - and a wide array of coaches who honed their craft at legendary venues throughout town.
Warrior pool would be feared far and wide.
You would likely need a venue WITHOUT a liquor license for practice and game play, though....
And to maximize efficiency of the space -- how about Warrior Darts?
Now just get the taxpayers to pay a coach $80,000 a year plus a coaching bonus and we're good to go.
I am sure if you get the highest caliber of a pool coach he (or even she) would naturally be able to transition just fine into darts.
Again, take me with a grain of salt. I love Granite City.
Have fun being Granite City... and invite others in to have fun.
Remember the Revenge of the Nerds tug of war. Let them pull hard on the rope...and fall on their asses as the other side just lets go.
Keep Granite City --- Granite City....
and have fun.
You'll be surprised what energy it could generate.
But because Granite City is Granite City -- it will never happen that way.
