Wally, by that thought process you would have a two team conference. O'Fallon is struggling this year. Bellevile West is always a coin toss. Alton, Collinsville and Granite always have a chance to beat each other.
Without the young QB, Granite might struggle against West and O'Fallon but with their running back, they can still beat Collinsville and Alton.
The problem with GC football is, as it has been for years, no depth. They finally get a kid who can run like a deer and has great field instinct and the coaches use him as a corner back. That's one of the most injury prone positions on the defensive side because runners and blockers are coming at you with generated speed. That kid should have never been on the defensive side of the ball when you know you have to keep him healthy to compete against the aforementioned teams. I think Coach Layman has to take full responsibility for this kid being out for the season.
I hope the kids can rebound and pick up at least two more and maybe even three more wins. No team in the conference looks to be a state contender this year including the mighty Tigers.
Kudos by the way to Coach Martin for calling off the dogs Friday night. He has always shown class when playing Granite and he should be commended for it. From what I saw in the bleachers, he could have made it 90-7 if he wanted to.
