I agree. Do they get a chance to showcase their shop abilities and have scouts from Ranken Tech offer scholarships? Do they get a chance to showcase their chemistry prowess so recruiters can offer scholarships? And the whole stinking thing is supported by the taxpayers. I know there's a lot of proud community support and I'm not dumb to it....but the salaries are subsidized by you and me.. to support the industry we call high school sports. Again -- I don't begrudge the proud supporters of it, nor the dedicated coaches and kids.... But it is what it is ... and it's worth being honest about it. It's an industry built on the backs of taxpayers....and Nike and UA use it for big profits....and colleges use it for a recruiting field. I say privatize the whole shootin match...let Nike and UA and the Colleges foot the bill to attract the talent they cultivate for their industries... They really would not want to miss out on that unlikely guy with an incredible story go from rags to riches... Maybe admission fees can rise...and Scouts can pay $1,000 a year for an all access pass to each High School Inc. League. The IHSA would cry foul...or file bankruptcy.. And education dollars spent on learning? Well -- it's fun being devil's advocate... and imagining the possibilites...and even looking at models used in countries that outperform us and clean our clocks in the classroom. But we do as we do....'cause 'Murica...
