Great post Mr. Chris and I couldn't agree more. Our club kids learn some of the essentials these days, IF they're fortunate enough to play club. Kids who come up in the park ranks don't get the level of coaching although, I understand football is getting better. Even a soccer legend like Petroski can't make a kid fast. He can't give a play the instincts he needs. The reason for the football improvement this year is the perfect example. The sophomore QB is one of the fastest kids in the conference. If he gets one or two good blocks he has a chance to get around the outside and there aren't many corner backs or linebackers who are going to catch him. Do I think the soccer coaches at high school could be more qualified? Probably although I don't profess to know much about soccer. Do I think they play favorites? Maybe but it would serve them no point to do so. If they don't win, they get blamed. Like Dee said, it's just a game at this level. Let the kids play and have the experience of playing a high school sport.
