The deal made was increased wages over time, and bonus wages awarded for continuing education. This is to keep good teachers in the district and reward veteran teachers who have proven their worth to the community over time. My initial response to you already discussed this deal. Furthermore...this thread or discussion was formed to discuss teacher's salaries, and if you read the first sentence i posted, it discusses how some people blame "high" salaries of gc teachers. So...now you may better understand why i responded how i did...i kept the discussion about teacher pay. Your initial concern was over a shrinking tax base, and i addressed this politely. The problem i had with your response was thanking god that public education would die soon...and i addressed that thought candidly, as usual. And this leads me to the 3rd point you make. I would contend that public education, being accessible to all regadless of economic standing, is a savior of our nation and the path to prosperity. Every american worker is educated enough to contribute to society...whether or not that education sticks is another story, but the educational professionals are doing their part to strengthen the nation. I believe time will tell...let us see where illinois ranks in many economic categories in 50 years, when we do not make education a priority. I can only speak from my own perspective when i say i will seek a state that DOES value education...that does offer a vision of education that draws heavily from john dewey. We need art. We need music. We need physical education. We need more languages taught at a younger age. Doing the opposite, in my opinion, spells disaster.
